The Golden Lakes Hotel and the Green Key label
Since 2020, the Golden Lakes Hotel has held the prestigious CLE VERTE / GREEN KEY eco-label. In this article, you can find out more about the measures we have put in place to maintain our high environmental standards over the years.
THE FIRST INTERNATIONAL SUSTAINABLE TOURISM LABEL
The Green Key label is the first international sustainable tourism label awarded to tourist accommodation. It rewards hotels that distinguish themselves in terms of sustainability and environmental policy.
Clé Verte / Green Key is present and recognized in 65 countries. Currently, some 3,200 establishments around the world have been awarded the label, and the Golden Lakes is proud to be one of them.
The Green Key label is awarded following a strict procedure based on the evaluation of a list of imperative and optional criteria. With this long list, the label covers all the environmental resources and issues impacted by tourism: water, energy, climate, waste, biodiversity, health, etc.

THE ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY OF THE GOLDEN LAKES HOTEL
To obtain this prestigious eco-certificate, the Golden Lakes Hotel has implemented green measures in a wide range of areas, including mobility, food, insulation, management of green spaces, watering, purchasing, building maintenance and heating, rainwater recovery, wastewater treatment, raising awareness among our teams about eco-gestures to be observed in their daily tasks, etc.
LIMITING ENERGY CONSUMPTION
A number of actions have been taken to significantly reduce energy consumption. In concrete terms, this has meant the installation of heat pumps, improved insulation, 100% energy-efficient lighting using LED bulbs, automatic cut-off of electricity after departure and centralized management of heating, the installation of intelligent thermostats in rooms and energy management using home automation technology, the introduction of defrosting programs for freezers and the installation of electrical terminals.
WATER SAVINGS
Flow reduction devices have been installed in showers and taps, and we also promote the re-use of towels in bedrooms.
WASTE MANAGEMENT
Several selective sorting points have been set up and we are also reducing the general use of single-use products:
- In rooms: elimination of plastic and cardboard cups, small bottles of shampoo/body care products, bathing caps… (always available at reception), selective sorting of PMC.
- In the restaurant dining room: use of reusable placemats, elimination of cutlery bags, use of biodegradable napkins.
- On our buffets: elimination of plastic containers (honey, chocolate, jam), better management of our cooking, etc.
- In the kitchen: sorting organic waste.
PROMOTING SHORT CIRCUITS AND LOCAL PRODUCTS
The menu at La Brasserie des Lacs has been completely redesigned to offer customers local produce. The majority of products come from national and local producers. This is particularly true of butter, cheese, jam and honey, as well as meat from a local farmer. Vegetarian alternatives are also available to our customers. To promote local tourism and short circuits, the hotel provides its guests with cycling and walking maps to discover the local natural and cultural heritage.
WHAT CAN YOU DO AS A CUSTOMER?
As with the Golden Lakes, choose eco-responsible hotels: select hotels that share your sustainability values.
Take part in initiatives: take part in recycling programs or other actions proposed by the hotel (don’t throw your PMCs in bins, put them on the desk to facilitate sorting). If you don't think it's necessary to clean your room, don't hesitate to place the red « Do not disturb » card on your room door or inform reception.
Responsible consumption: Limit the use of new towels and sheets and respect the hotel's resources. Only the towels you place in the bathtub will be replaced. Please hang the towels you do not wish to have replaced on the towel rack. If you would like your room to be cleaned at a specific time, please call reception.
Turn off the lights and television when you leave the room.
Maintain a reasonable temperature in the room and turn off the air conditioning when you leave your accommodation.
Take what you need for breakfast and serve yourself several times to avoid wastage.
For the more sporty among you, you can also take the stairs instead of the lift. Finally, reception can also send you your bills by e-mail. Bicycles can be hired directly from the hotel reception. Don't hesitate to explore surroundings and limit your consumption of CO2 linked to your tourist trips.
Constructive feedback: give your opinion on the hotel's sustainable practices and don't hesitate to suggest changes. Tell us about any water leaks or other technical problems linked to energy losses.
PAY WITH YOUR DIGITAL ECOCHEQUES
With the Green Key label, the Golden Lakes now accepts payment by digital ecocheques (Sodexo and Edenred magnetic cards). This is certainly excellent news for our guests, who can now pay for their stay with their ecocheques and feel like they’re not spending a single euro!
If you’ve any ecocheques left and don’t know what to do with them, book your night at the Golden Lakes Hotel. Now you know that the hotel has the Green Key label! So, by staying there, you’re making a good choice for the environment and the climate.
